(T4T) Tips for Tuesday - 5 question Interview with Barbara J Peters

This week we're doing something a little different for "Tips for Tuesday" aka (T4T) we speak to Relationship expert and author - Barbara J Peters who has built her practice on helping couples communicate.

Ms. Peters has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from C.W. Post College of Long Island University, a Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing from Stony Brook University, and earned a Master of Science in Counseling from Georgia State University. She is certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors and a member of The Licensed Professional Counselors of Georgia

A Long Island native, Ms. Peters has made Georgia her home for the last 24 years; her private counseling practice is in Cumming, GA.

1) Can you first start by telling people who aren’t familiar with your counseling services what you focus on and who you help? I’m as authentic as they come, so I encourage the same from my clients. The dynamic of honesty and trust between counselor and client is vital to the success of the counseling process. When you can strip away self-doubt and defenses and come to a session with a genuine desire to work through an issue, there is a 100% guarantee of positive change. I get that commitment consistently from my clients, and in return, my clients get the results they need. I focus on couples. My passion is in helping couples see their relationship in a new and fresher light with hope for the future. Without hope goals will be difficult to achieve. I offer tools and a positive outlook on growth and change. As no two couples are the same, I engage with each on an individual basis, meeting them where they are in their journey.

2) Is there any advice you can give to people married a couple of years to keep those “home fires” burning?

Take the time to know each other. Learn something new about your spouse every day and try to see the world through his or her eyes. Don’t take each other for-granted: express love in creative ways daily just so your spouse feels the connection. Hold hands, send notes of love, and most important, spend time on the two of you. Romance and more romance!

3) Spring and Summer months are typically packed with weddings of couples beginning a new episode of their lives together. Is there any advice you can give to young or newly married couples to keep a great bond going?

Keep the marriage a priority. Live the vows. Action speaks louder than words. Make sure you know how each other need to be loved. And then make it happen. It is all up to you to create a happily ever after.

4) Although you’re a relationship counselor that caters to those in relationships – is there any advice you would like to pass on to singles looking for love right now?

Know yourself first and have a relationship with yourself. Make sure you are someone that you would like to be in a relationship with. Know what you would do to have a great relationship. The answer lays in you not the other person. If you are true to yourself, love will find you. Positives attract positives and if you send out the right messages, they will return.

5) Finally how, can people learn more about you and get more information about your counseling services?

Please visit my website and weekly blog, at www.barbarajpeters.com . I am also available for phone consultations at a time convenient for us both. Seeking and finding the right counselor is one of the
most important decisions you will make, so do your homework. Also feel free to check out my books on Amazon.com.

Thanks again Ms. Peters for taking the time to grant me this brief interview!
